Mechanism and influencing factors of moisture absorption and perspiration of fabrics

2019-02-21

In recent years, people on garment fabric comfort, health, safety and environmental protection requirements more and more high, with the increase of people in the outdoor activity time, casual wear and sportswear mutual penetration and integration trend is increasingly popular with the customers, this kind of garment fabrics, requires both good comfort, and requirements in all activities, once appear, sweating, clothing will not produce cold wet paste skin feeling.So the new requirement of moisture absorption and perspiration elimination function is put forward.

The fabric of moisture absorption and perspiration elimination fiber is widely used in sports wear, outdoor, travel leisure wear, underwear and other fields because of its excellent characteristics of light weight, moisture conduction, quick drying, cool, comfortable, easy to clean, no ironing and so on.

Fabric moisture absorption and sweat removal mechanism:

Perspiration tester can test fabric fabrics. The spread of sweat in fabric can be roughly divided into four stages:

1. Contact, wetting and absorption of the fabric and sweat;

2. Transmission of sweat;

3. Storage or retention of sweat;

4. Sweat evaporates from the surface of the fabric.

Perspiration tester

Moisture absorption and sweat elimination fibers generally have a high specific surface area, the surface has a lot of shock hole or groove, its cross section is generally a special shape, the use of capillary effect, so that the fiber can quickly absorb the skin surface moisture and sweat, through the diffusion, transfer to the outer band.

Therefore, after sweating, the sweat is not diffused on the inner surface of the fabric, but is absorbed directly to the outer layer of the fabric and evaporates on the outer layer of the fabric to keep the inner layer of the fabric relatively dry, which reduces the adhesion effect between the human body and the fabric and improves human comfort and human movement function.

Main influencing factors of hydrophilicity of polyester fiber or fabric:

(1) surface and section shapes of single fibers

Fiber surface with small concave convex or irregular shape of the fiber water absorption.This is because the smooth and complete surface structure of the fiber changes, not only makes the specific surface area increase, increase the affinity for water molecules, and the use of micro-pore capillary water absorption principle, the gap between the fiber to keep the water increase.

(2) types and quantities of hydrophilic groups

The type of hydrophilic group is important.Polar groups, such as transradical, amino, phthalein, and fusil, have strong affinity for water molecules.Therefore, the more polar groups in the fiber molecular structure or on the fiber surface, the better the hygroscopicity.

(3) supramolecular structure of fibers

The higher the crystallinity of the fiber, the worse the water absorption.This is because in the crystallization zone of the fiber, the molecules are closely arranged in a regular way, and the polar groups are cross-linked among the molecules, and the water molecules are not easy to penetrate into the crystallization zone.
