The damage of fabric wear is generally manifested as damage, loss of quality, appearance discoloration, pilling and so on.There are many methods to test the wear resistance of textile products, such as flat grinding, curved grinding, flanged grinding and compound grinding.Martindale method is a kind of flat grinding method, martindale abrasion tester is widely used in apparel, home textiles, decorative fabrics, furniture fabrics wear resistance testing.
Testing principle:
The test sample is rubbed against a standard cloth under specified pressure, and after a predetermined number of rotations of the martindale abrasion tester, the tested sample is compared with a reference sample to rate its wear resistance.
Evaluation methods:
1. Observe the changes of appearance performance
In general, under the same test conditions, after a specified number of times of wear, observe the changes in the surface gloss, pilling, pilling and other appearance effects of the sample, and usually compare with the standard sample to assess its grade. The number of times of friction required by the occurrence of a certain number of sand lines on the sample surface or the occurrence of a certain number of holes on the sample surface after wear and tear can also be used as the evaluation basis.
2. Measurement of changes in physical properties
The wear resistance of the fabric was compared by measuring the changes of the physical and mechanical properties such as weight, thickness and fracture strength after the specified times of wear.
Meet the standards:
1. International standards:
ISO5470: rubber or plastic coated fabrics - determination of abrasion resistance
ISO12945.2: determination of pilling of fabrics by martindale method
ISO12947: determination of abrasion resistance of textiles by the Martindale method
2. American society for testing materials:
ASTMD4966 fabric abrasion resistance tester for martindale
ASTMD4970 textile abrasion resistance test martindale method
3. China national standard:
GB/T4802.2: determination of pilling property of textile fabrics
GB/T21196: textiles -- determination of abrasion resistance of fabrics by the martindale method
GB/T13775: abrasion test for cotton, linen and spun silk woven fabrics
4. Eu standards:
ENISO12947 textiles - determination of abrasion resistance of textiles by the martindale method
British standards institute
Determination of abrasion resistance of BSISO12947 textiles by Martindale method.
