Why does the fabric shrink?

2020-08-14

The reason why clothes become smaller is that the cloth used to make clothes will shrink. For example, cotton mercerized flat cloth and cotton mercerized twill and cotton plain cloth, ordinary worsted woolen cloth and real silk crepe DE Chine, etc. All the natural fibers we use, such as pure cotton, will shrink.Due to some mechanical stretching during the production and processing of the fabric, the natural fiber will have a natural shrinkage process after being stretched and washed by water.Because the processing technology flow of different fiber is not the same, so the shrinkage rate of all kinds of fabrics also have big small. The smallest shrinkage is synthetic fiber and mixed textile, by wool, hemp, cotton fabric in the middle, silk fabric shrinkage is larger, and the largest is viscose fiber, rayon, rayon wool fabric.Of course, some garment manufacturers preshrink the fabric by soaking it in water before cutting and processing it.The seams of such a garment can be kept very flat and the size is stable.

Shrinkage rate is generally refers to the clothing material after water immersion and washing, the percentage of fabric shrinkage.Shrinkage is related to fabric and tissue structure:

1, natural fibers such as cotton, wool, silk, hemp moisture absorption is relatively large, so the shrinkage rate is also large; And the chemical fiber such as polypropylene fiber, dacron hygroscopicity is small, reason shrinkage rate is small also.

2. Tight fabric structure and loose fabric will also affect the degree of shrinkage. The fabric with loose structure generally has a higher shrinkage rate than that with tight structure.Try not to buy pure chemical fiber clothes because of shrinkage, now or cotton with wool comfortable.

Tips for reducing shrinkage in clothes:

1, washing clothes as little as possible with washing powder or soap, appropriate with some softening agent.

2. Soak in light brine for half an hour or so before washing, and then rinse with cold water; For clothes that have shrunk, you can stretch them on a large piece of cardboard and iron them to restore them to their original shape.

3. Dry cleaning.
