Industrial protective gloves - test standard EN388

2019-05-21

EN388 is one of the European standards for industrial glove protection. The European committee for standardization (CEN) approved version en388:2003 on 2 July 2003.This standard, on the basis of the general standard EN420 for gloves, stipulates the technical requirements, test methods, marks and instructions for the protection against mechanical hazards of labor protective gloves. It is applicable to all kinds of protective gloves in the field of mechanical hazards, and can also be used to determine the impact resistance and antistatic characteristics of gloves.

The term "mechanical hazard" refers to the danger that may result from friction, knife cutting, tearing and piercing.Therefore, it indicates that the four basic test performance of this standard are:

U1. Anti-repeated friction winding number of wear-resistant glove material;

U2. Number of times the cutting resistance of the cutting resistance material of the gloves;

U3. Tear resistance: how many units of force are required to tear the pre-cut hole in the glove material?

U4. Puncture resistance: how much force is required to Pierce the palm of the glove with a calibrated spike.

The EN388 standard USES different methods for each of the above performance tests, and then displays the test results obtained through the test with different mechanical hazard symbols to illustrate the rating of the glove against each of the four basic tests, and records the results as a performance rating.The higher the rating, the better the protection the gloves provide.It is important to note that all tests are performed under controlled laboratory conditions, and these ratings provide information only for reference so that you can compare the two types of gloves to see which one is more suitable for your desired use.

Among the different types of mechanical hazards, cutting injuries can cause horrific injuries.In any industry, cuts and lacerations are mostly in the hands, with the most serious injuries occurring in the meat handling and thin metal plate processing industries.As we all know, recent global attention to the case of bird flu occurred in our country are basically in the slaughter of poultry processing should be prepared not doing preventive measures, such as wearing masks and EN388 standard cutting resistance gloves, so that the bird flu bacterium enters the body through breathing or blood circulation system inside, the end of the lead to cannot save.

Therefore, according to the operational needs of the industry, we must take necessary precautions to correctly evaluate and select the mechanical hazard protective gloves in accordance with EN388 standard to reduce the possibility and severity of injury, and at the same time select the corresponding performance level and characteristics to properly and adequately protect the occupational safety and health of the workers.

EN388 standard is one of the relatively complete glove standard series in Europe. Because of its universality and universality in the occurrence of hazards, this standard is frequently applied in many fields all over the world.However, the improvement of individual protection standardization in China has been in the state of slow update of standards, or even vacancy, so it is urgent to fill the need of standards similar to EN388 as soon as possible.
