Evaluation of drying rate of fabrics

2018-11-21

At present, there is a great market demand for sportswear with water management characteristics. Quick drying and fast sweating are key features of water management fabrics. The drying rate of the fabric reflects the overall effect of evaporation and perspiration. Slow-drying fabrics can affect comfort for the wearer who is in a state of intense activity and sweating heavily. The measurement of drying rate has become one of the important methods to study the properties of water management fabric.

The American textile dyer's association (AATCC) has developed and approved two assessment methods for testing the drying rate of fabrics. The drying property of the fabric can be analyzed by the following methods.

AATCC test method 200-2013, drying rate of textiles under water absorption: air flow method

AATCC test method 201-2013, drying rate of fabric: heating plate method

These new test methods simulate actual wearing conditions where the fabric is exposed to air and in contact with the skin.

Comparison of drying rate test methods:

Experimental principle of AATCC 201:

The drying rate of textiles with a fixed amount of water absorbed by contact heating plate under constant temperature air flow.

The method is applicable to all kinds of fabrics, including knitted, woven, and nonwoven fabrics, as well as fabrics.

The equipment mainly includes the following configurations: temperature recorder, infrared thermocouple probe, fan box, metal plate, soft board insulation, micropipette, anemometer, magnetic, plastic or metal bar, used to fix the specimen in place.

Before the trial need to dispatch the indoor temperature and humidity to 21 + 1 ° C (70 + 2 ° F), 65 + / - 2% RH.

The equipment needs deionized or distilled water, and electricity requirements: AC 230V, 50Hz/60Hz.

Metal plate temperature was stable at 37 + / - 1, air flow was 1.5 + / - 0.5 m/s, water volume was 1 ml.
