The breathability of pure cotton was tested by a fabric air permeability tester

2019-03-04

The breathability of fabric is one of the important indexes of fabric performance. The breathability of fabric directly affects the thermal insulation and comfort of clothing. The permeability of some industrial textiles is also closely related to their functions, such as the influence of the permeability of parachute, water hose and filter cloth on its use and filtration effect.

The permeability of a fabric is the ability of air to pass through the pores of the fabric when there is a pressure difference between the two sides of the fabric.Generally, the weft and warp interwoven pores and gaps between fibers are used as the path to complete. Therefore, the air permeability of the fabric is determined by the number and size of the pores between the fibers, and is related to the fiber and yarn properties, fabric geometry and post-finishing, etc., that is, the factors affecting the air permeability of the fabric are various.

The indicators of air permeability are air permeability and air permeability.Air permeability refers to the volume of air flowing through the unit area of the fabric per unit time under the specified pressure difference between the two sides of the fabric, and the unit is m3/m2·s.Air permeability refers to the rate at which the air flow passes through the sample vertically under the specified sample area, pressure drop and time, and its unit is mm/s.The air permeability of the fabric is positively correlated with the air pressure difference between the two sides of the fabric.According to the new national standard, the air permeability is used to represent the air permeability of the fabric.

According to the experimental method specified in the national standard gb5453-85, this experiment USES the fabric breathameter to measure the air flow through the fabric in a unit time under certain pressure difference conditions, so as to obtain the breathability of the fabric.

Air Permeability Testing are used to test the air permeability of various flat materials such as knitted fabrics, woven fabrics (including tightly coated fabrics), non-woven fabrics, paper, papermaking felt, glass fibers, air filters and foams.

Applicable standards:

GB/T5453, GB/T13764, ASTMD737, ASTMD3574, ISO9237, afnorg07-111, BS5636, DIN53887, jisl1096-a and other national standards.

Test steps:

1. Prepare test samples as required, cut them to the required size, and install them on the instrument.

2. Select orifice plate.(note: for different tested fabrics, test orifice plates with different diameters should be used. The better the air permeability of the material, the larger the aperture of the selected orifice plate, the tester can choose the orifice plate according to the historical data of the air permeability of the material or according to the empirical estimation. If the air permeability of the tested material is not clear, the test shall be conducted to determine which orifice plate is selected.

3. Turn on the fabric permeability instrument source, under the test state, press "set" key, enter the parameter setting, including differential sample, the sample area, nozzle number and the test unit, set parameters, under the testing interface press "zero" key, the initialization pressure sensors, pressure sample clamp handle, click on the "test" button, to start testing.

4. To set the differential, the instrument automatically figure out test results and to stop testing, after the test, you can press 【 features 】, in the pop-up menu for the corresponding operation, can press "retrieve" button and view the test results, and can print test results, test end, shut off the power, and cleaning equipment and various accessories, fixed value will unload.
