T001 Sharp edge tester is used to determine whether the accessible edges on child-related products are likely to cause potential risk of injury after normal use and reasonable abuse. Those child-related products include metal or glass edges on toys and other articles intended for use by children under 8 years of age.

Test Principle

A self adhesive PTFE tape is attached to a mandrel, which is then rotated for a single 360- degree revolution along the accessible edge being tested. If the tape is cut in half or longer in length (approx. 13mm), the edge is identified as a hazardous sharp edge.

Sample Preparing

Every sample should be put in the environment with temperature 20~250C and humidity 20~70% for more than 4 hours.

Testing Procedure

2.1. Keep the sample shape and static without moving.

2.2. Remove the test part from the entire toy in order the tester can touch it, but must keep the original rigidity.

2.3. The beginning and end of the PTFE tape can be close to or overlap only in 0.1 inch scope.

2.4. Start the tester with the shaft rotating under uniform speed, keep test edge vertical on the middle width of the PTFE tape.

2.5. Exerting 1.35LB on the test edge after the indicator runs, press the switch, keep the test edge static on the rotating shaft.

2.6. After one circle, stop testing and put off the tape carefully without change the damaged part. The damaged length reaches 1/2 inch, the test edge can be identified as sharp edge.

NOTE:

a. You can use the pedal activated switch if test sample is too large that cannot remove to test.

b. You must use the charge power source during testing.
