Textile water resistance property test is a wide concept which is involved with 3 types of different testing methods: Surface water-repellent test (spray test method), Water permeability resistance test method (hydrostatic pressure), Simulate the rain test (horizontal injection method)

Also it requires different manufacturing craft and requirements accordingly.

This article will introduce third test method: Simulate the rain test (horizontal injection method)

This method is by measuring the permeability of the fabric resistant to spray water to predict its resistance to the permeability of the rain.So not only need the fabrics have a certain surface water resistance property, also need a certain hydrostatic pressure resistance property.This method aims at assessing the vapor-permeability of contrary side of fabric under the effect of outside rain spray.

In the test process, spray a certain amount of water with certain water pressure ( like 600mmH2O) and under specified time (such as 5 minutes) through standard required spray nozzle onto fabric. After test finished, check the water absorption of contrary side of fabric and how much weight of water is absorbed. So this test result can be expressed: 0.2g or less than 0.5g, it is a unit of weight.

The common standards include GB/T 23321, ISO 22958, AATCC 35

Rain test mainly simulate that the garment under wear state and occur the rain, so as to check its resistance to rain ability. In the nature, each times of rain amount are different, the water pressure, like 600mmH2O, is to simulate rain amount, the bigger amount is, the higher corresponding rain amount is. And the testing time is corresponding to outdoor activity time. Generally, surface water proof and water pressure resistance will affect the rain spray test. Surface water proof enable to restrain the dwell time of rain stay on the fabric surface, the shorter time is, the lower rate of fabric be wetted is. However, water pressure is able to resistant the direct impact to fabric in short period, so that not penetrate into contrary side of fabric. So as to protect people.
