Factors influencing respirator permeability

Mask is made by covering the person's mouth, nose and chin so that it fits closely with the face. By inhaling, the person forces the air to filter out harmful substances when passing through the mask, so as to achieve the protective effect. The principle of mask protection is based on the filter effect of mask on harmful substances. The higher the filter efficiency of mask on harmful substances, the better the air purification and the healthier the air inhaled by human body. The better the protective effect of mask is.

In addition to achieving a certain protective effect, the comfort of wearing a mask is also an important factor to consider. The air permeability of masks is one of the main factors affecting the comfort of wearing. If the air permeability is not good, consumers will feel difficult to breathe when wearing masks. Improper use may cause serious consequences.

What factors contribute to the air permeability of masks.

1. The air permeability of the mask is related to the structure of the mask

Mask material structure.Nonwovens generally have a single fiber network structure with the best air permeability and the most common use.For textile fabrics, the gap between the yarns is closely related to the air permeability of the fabric. The larger the gap, the better the air permeability. For example, gauze masks with large gaps are better than poplin and twill fabrics with tight structure in air permeability.Generally, knitted masks have better air permeability than woven masks.

The number of layers of mask material used.In general, the lower the number of masks, the worse the ventilation. If one or more layers of nonwovens with particle filtering effect are added between two layers of spunbonded nonwovens or two layers of knitted fabrics, the air permeability will decrease obviously.

2. The air permeability of the mask is related to wear and use

When the mask does not fit well with the face, there will be gaps, and the air resistance of the gaps is far less than that of the filter material, and the air flow will preferentially pass through the area with low air resistance. At this time, the wearer feels that the air permeability is good, but the protective effect of the mask is greatly reduced. Therefore, when wearing a mask, it is still necessary to choose a mask of appropriate face size, and make full use of the regulatory effects such as nose clip and mask band to ensure that the mask fits closely with the face, so as to achieve a good protective effect.

3. The air permeability of the mask is related to filtration efficiency

The air permeability of the mask is related to the filtration efficiency of the mask. When the respirator is poorly ventilated, the respirator blocks the entry of external substances into the respirator, increasing the filtration efficiency, but reducing the wearing comfort.

In short, the air permeability of a mask is related to the structural design of the mask, as well as the wearer's use and the shape of the face. Therefore, it is very important to choose a mask that is suitable for the face with good protective effect and breathability.

Our mask air permeability tester can well test the breathability of knitted masks to ensure the protective effect and safety of the masks.
