Tensile property test of single fiber

A fiber is a substance composed of continuous or discontinuous filaments.In plants and animals, fiber plays an important role in maintaining tissue.Fiber has a wide range of USES. It can be woven into fine thread, thread head and hemp rope. When making paper or weaving felt, it can also be woven into fiber layer.Textile fiber is divided into natural fiber and chemical fiber.Flax, cotton yarn and hemp rope are natural fibers obtained from plants. Wool and silk are natural fibers obtained from animals.There are many kinds of chemical fiber, such as nylon, man-made fiber, glass fiber and so on.

Properties of textile fibers

(1) length

Length is the index that measures length degree of textile fiber.The length of fiber has an important effect on the properties of textiles. Generally speaking, the longer the fiber, the better the yarn and fabric quality.

(2) fineness

The cable density, densification and number of fiber fineness units, which are all indexes to measure the thickness of textile fiber.The linear density and densification are fixed length system, the larger the value, the thicker the fiber;The number is fixed weight system, the larger the value, the thinner the fiber.

(3) mechanical properties

1. strong

The maximum tensile force that textile fiber can bear when stretched to break is called tensile breaking strength, abbreviated as strength, and the symbol is F.The legal unit of strength is cattle (N), and textile fibers are usually expressed in Chinese cattle (cN).

2. the intensity

The ratio of strength to fibre sectional area is known as tensile breaking strength (sigma b).The legal unit of strength is N/m2(or Pa), and N/mm2(or MPa) is commonly used in textile fibers.

3. Specific strength

The ratio of strength to linear density is called specific intensity and is denoted as sigma bd.The legal unit of specific strength is N/ Tex, and cN/ Tex is commonly used for textile fibers.Traditionally, specific intensity is sometimes called intensity.

4. Elongation at break

Elongation at break is a measure of fiber deformation ability.The percentage of the elongation of textile fiber to the original length is called elongation at break.

5. elastic

Textile fiber and its products are subjected to external force and deformation in the process of processing and use.When the force is removed, one part of the fiber can recover its deformation, while the other part does not.Elasticity is the ability of a fiber to recover from deformation.

6. Elastic response rate

Elastic recovery rate is a measure of fiber deformation recovery ability.Textile fiber tensile deformation and elongation (not broken), after the removal of external force, the fiber due to elasticity and natural shrinkage.The percentage of shrinkage against the original elongation is called the elastic recovery rate.
