Colour fastness test for textile clothing

2019-04-03

In general, it's best to separate colors from whites. However, before you put clothes (especially new clothes) with regular washing, you should know if they will stain quickly. In this way, you can prevent their dye from getting onto other clothes, otherwise, it will make them look ugly!

If the fabric does not fade, the dye will not stick to the fabric completely, which means it may fade and get into other clothing. The quality of the dye or process used on the fabric affects the color fastness of the fabric, and new clothes are usually dyed more slowly than those that have been washed several times.

A fabric that doesn't fade will resist fading and running, so it's safe to wash it in other clothes as usual.Regardless of color fastness, clothes should be washed in a similar color to ensure that the color stays bright and the white stays bright.

1. Color fastness test of immersion or washing:

Follow these steps before putting a new colored item in the washing machine.

1. Soak a small part of the hem or inner seam with water.

Iron a piece of white fabric or kitchen paper on it.

If the paper can absorb any color, your clothes won't fade.

2. Solvent color fastness test:

Colour fastness tests should be carried out on a coloured garment before using the solvent as a fabric detergent. This includes solvents such as eucalyptus oil, methylated alcohol, white spirit/turpentine substitutes and nail polish remover.Test these products before using them as fabric detergents.

Wet inconspicuous parts of your clothing with the solvent of your choice.

Blot the area dry with a white cloth or paper towel.

If any stain of any color comes out, the color of this dress will not fade with solvent.

In addition, as a friendly reminder, if you are sure that a certain garment does not fade, please follow the following tips to prevent the dye from fading or flowing into other clothes.

1. In the cold water (30 ° C or below) in the clean clothes - dyes are more likely to run under the hot water temperature.

Turn the clothes over to reduce the chance of fading.

Wash your clothes separately, or in similar colors, so it doesn't matter if they change a bit.

Don't leave wet clothes in the washing machine, as they are likely to bleed -- remove and dry them as soon as they are finished.

Use a cleanser, such as Persian, that helps keep colors vibrant.
